Justice Hamza Muazu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court Abuja has granted bail to the former Governor of the Central Bank, Godwin Emefiele. The bail amount is set at N300 million, and he is required to provide two sureties with certificates of occupancy and titles of properties within the Maitama District.

The court, in delivering the judgment on November 22, also directed Emefiele to submit all his travel documents to the court registrar and to confine himself to the Abuja Municipal Council. Until the bail conditions are met, he is expected to remain in the Kuje Correctional Centre.

Notably, Emefiele was not present in court during the bail application hearing, with his lawyer, Mr. Mathew Burkaa, explaining that he is already at the Kuje Correctional Centre. Emefiele is facing trial for alleged procurement fraud, initially charged with 20 counts amounting to N6.5 billion by the Federal Government. However, the charges were reduced to six, totaling N1.2 billion, and he was arraigned on them last Friday.
