A man accused of s3xually abusing and impregnating his 14-year-old daughter has been arrested in Mexico, where authorities also rescued the teenager, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.
Sergio Galvez Perez and his daughter were located in an operation involving Mexican authorities and the FBI. Investigators believe the teenager gave birth to her father’s child beside a road in California. The newborn, named “Baby Angelita” by law enforcement, was found dead on August 1.
Authorities initially sought Perez and his daughter in connection with the infant’s death. The Monterey County District Attorney’s Office later said no charges had been brought against the teenager, describing her as a “victim of her father’s abuse.” “No child should ever have to endure such horrific circumstances,” the office said in a statement, adding that the girl’s safety was its priority.
Officials said Perez was found in possession of narcotics but did not provide further details. He is suspected of multiple felonies, including incest, lewd or lascivious acts with a child younger than 14, lewd acts with a minor, unlawful s3xual intercourse, child concealment and child endangerment.
The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office said it would schedule a press conference at a later date.
