The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) is set to begin construction of a new headquarters for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja. The new facility will be situated in Maitama, one of the city’s prestigious districts.
Lere Olayinka, senior special assistant on public communications to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, confirmed the development, revealing that President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to officially launch the project next week.
This initiative is part of a wider effort by the FCTA to commemorate President Tinubu’s second anniversary in office by inaugurating completed infrastructure projects and kicking off new ones across the capital territory.
Recent major projects include the renovation of the Abuja International Conference Centre, the construction of new bus terminals in Kugbo and Mabushi, and upgrades to key roadways such as Apo-Wassa Road and the N16 interchange.
Other significant works encompass connecting roads from Maitama through Katampe to Jahi, the inner northern expressway from Ring Road 3 (Idu to Kubwa road), the CN8 road linking N5 (Obafemi Awolowo Way) to the Court of Appeal, the N20 flyover on Kubwa Road, and the route from Life Camp junction to Ring Road III.
Additional infrastructure projects involve the Kabusa-Takushara and Kabusa-Ketti access roads, a new access road in Giri District, a 15-kilometre road linking A2 Junction on Abuja-Lokoja Road to Pai in Kwali Area Council, and multiple road developments in Ushafa, War College, and the army checkpoint area in Bwari Area Council.
