The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 70-year-old man, Usman Abubakar, for allegedly defiling an eight-year-old girl in the Tsakanin Bayara area of Bauchi metropolis.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, August 29, 2026.
According to Habib, the suspect was arrested after the girl’s 48-year-old father reported the incident at the ‘E’ Division, Yelwa, on Wednesday, August 26.
The father reportedly told the police that Abubakar allegedly lured his daughter to an uncompleted building in the area on August 24, where he allegedly sexually assaulted her.
Following the complaint, police operatives moved swiftly and arrested the suspect. The police said Abubakar allegedly confessed to the offence during interrogation.
The victim was subsequently taken to the Police Clinic for medical examination and necessary care.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the alleged act and assured the public that the matter would be thoroughly investigated, with the suspect to be charged to court in accordance with the law.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Bauchi, for discreet investigation and prosecution.
The command reiterated its zero tolerance for sexual violence and child abuse, while urging parents, guardians and members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities involving minors to the nearest police station.
