The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old security guard, Ndifreke Godwin, over the alleged sexual assault of an eight-year-old girl in Calabar, the state capital.
The command’s spokesperson, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, August 30, 2026, stating that the incident occurred along Tinapa Road in Calabar.
According to the statement, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly lured the minor to his residence with a promise of giving her money before allegedly sexually assaulting her.
The incident was reportedly brought to the attention of the police on August 29 by the girl’s mother, following which Godwin was arrested.
The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a “discreet and comprehensive investigation.”
Eitokpah said the victim was issued a medical form for the necessary medical examination and treatment, while investigations into the incident continue.
He assured the public that the suspect would be accorded due process and that appropriate legal action would be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.
The police also urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities involving children to security agencies.
