The Federal Government has announced the temporary closure of the Ijora-Marine Bridge in Lagos State to carry out critical repair works.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, May 13, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, said the closure will begin at 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 18, and will last for 21 days.

According to Kesha, certain sections of the bridge will be fully closed, while others will undergo partial closures throughout the repair period.

She explained that the maintenance will include lifting the bridge deck to replace worn-out bearings and performing other essential structural work aimed at enhancing safety and comfort for both motorists and pedestrians.

“We understand this may cause inconvenience, but the repairs are necessary to maintain the structural integrity of the bridge and protect all road users,” Kesha said.

She noted that traffic diversions have been carefully planned, and traffic personnel will be deployed to manage the flow and assist motorists.

Kesha also appealed to residents, commuters, and businesses in the area to plan ahead and cooperate with authorities during the closure.

“Safety signs and traffic management tools will be put in place to reduce disruptions,” she assured. “We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate the public’s patience and understanding.”
