Nigeria’s U17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, have made history by reaching the final of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup for the first time after defeating Brazil 3-1 in their semi-final clash on Wednesday night, November 4.
The Nigerian side secured the impressive victory through goals from Queen Joseph and Awawu Bashiru, who scored twice to send the Flamingos into the final.
Joseph broke the deadlock in the 56th minute before Bashiru doubled Nigeria’s advantage in the 71st minute. The forward completed her brace in the 80th minute, sealing a memorable 3-1 victory over the South American side.
The achievement marks Nigeria’s best-ever performance in the competition, surpassing their previous record of a bronze-medal finish at the 2022 edition.
Following their historic semi-final triumph, the Flamingos will now face Japan in the final as they aim to win their first-ever FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup title.
