
The Yobe State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the death of a 45-year-old woman, identified as Falmata Abubakar, in Gashua, Bade Local Government Area of the state.
According to a report by LIB, the lifeless body of the food vendor was discovered on Friday, October 17, near the Federal University Gashua (FUG).
Preliminary investigations indicated that the body had been transported in a vehicle and dumped at the location where it was later found.
In a statement released on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the arrest of Abdulmumini Garba, 60, who serves as the Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Karasuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State.
According to the police spokesperson, the suspect confessed to conveying the victim in his vehicle before an argument broke out over her request for financial assistance to support her business. Garba allegedly told investigators that Falmata died during the altercation, after which he disposed of her body in a bush near the university.
“The Yobe State Police Command has recorded another breakthrough in its ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the recovery of a female corpse near the Federal University Gashua on October 17, 2025,” the statement read.
The command added that through intelligence gathering and swift operational response, officers from Bade Division tracked and arrested the suspect, who also serves as the Secretary of the Vegetables Market (Kasuwan Gwari) in Gashua.
Commissioner of Police CP Emmanuel Ado, while commending the DPO and his team for their professionalism, reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring justice and assured the public that the case will be diligently investigated and charged to court upon completion.
He also appreciated the public’s cooperation and urged residents to continue providing credible information to help combat crime and maintain peace across Yobe State.
