Governor Oyetola Opts Out of 2026 Gubernatorial Race, Senator Ajibola Basiru Tipped as Likely APC Candidate
The former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye, has disclosed to his loyalists that the immediate past Governor of Osun State has informed him of his decision not to contest in the upcoming Osun State gubernatorial elections.
Speaking during a meeting held earlier today, Thursday, November 21, 2024, with his loyalists and allies, Rt. Hon. Owoeye stated categorically that the Honorable Minister for Blue and Marine Economy has opted to remain focused on supporting the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda as a member of the Federal Executive Council.
As it were it will mean that the race for APC ticket is now open. However, the odds appear in favor of Senator Ajibola Basiru, the National Secretary of the APC and the former Spokesperson of the 9th Senate who represented Osun Central. Basiru served as a two time commissioner under the APC Government of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola as commissioner for special duties and Attorney General respectively.
