The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the killing of two travellers and the abduction of three others by armed men in Ganmu village, located in Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.
According to police reports, the victims were en route from Lagos to Babanla town when their vehicle developed a flat tyre near Ganmu village last Friday. While attempting repairs, they were ambushed by five gunmen. The attack claimed the lives of Alhaji Abdulrazak Ewenla, a native of Ajia village, and Jimoh Audu from Ganmu.
The assailants also abducted three individuals identified as Kazeem Ajide, Wahidi, and Mufutau (surnames yet to be confirmed).
Police spokesperson Toun Ejire-Adeyemi confirmed the incident and assured that a full-scale investigation is underway, with efforts ongoing to rescue the victims and apprehend the perpetrators.
The command also addressed a viral video circulating on social media, which claimed residents of Ganmu-Ahileri had deserted their community due to frequent attacks, portraying it as a “ghost town.” The police dismissed the video as misleading and an attempt to incite public fear.
“The incident of July 31, 2025, was indeed unfortunate,” the statement read. “However, tactical teams comprising police, military personnel, and local vigilantes were immediately deployed to the area. The presence of security operatives seen in the viral video reflects this coordinated response, not a state of panic.”
The command stated that normalcy has since been restored and reassured the public of its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Kwara State.
