Hisbah in Yobe Destroys 243 Cartons of Alcohol

The Yobe State Hisbah Commission on Thursday, January 19, oversaw the destruction of 243 cartons of confiscated alcoholic beverages at Maina Lodge in Damaturu. The items had been seized three weeks earlier during a coordinated enforcement operation.

The exercise was led by the Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Yahuza Hamza Abubakar, and witnessed by security officials as well as members of the public. The alcohol, comprising various brands and types, was publicly burned in accordance with the legal and religious standards observed in Yobe State.

Dr. Yahuza reiterated that the sale, distribution, and consumption of alcohol remain strictly prohibited under the state’s legal and religious framework. He expressed appreciation to Governor Mai Mala Buni for establishing the Hisbah Commission and for his continued support in enabling its mandate.

In a related operation, the Hisbah Unit in Garin Alkali, located in Bursari Local Government Area, destroyed an additional 17 cartons of alcohol.

The Hisbah Chairman urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or unlawful activities, including the illegal sale or possession of alcohol, to the relevant authorities for swift intervention.

The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to promoting moral discipline and ensuring public safety in line with the religious and cultural values of Yobe State.
