The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has pledged to lead President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections. His declaration comes amid growing criticism over his political alignment, with some questioning his loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC) while still claiming membership in the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking during a media chat in Abuja on Monday, June 2, Wike firmly stated:

“I’ve said this before—because I’m part of Asiwaju’s government, is that surprising? Are you not aware I’ll lead his campaign in Rivers State? You want me to say no?”

The former Rivers State governor also addressed Tinubu’s 2023 performance in the Federal Capital Territory, where the president secured less than 10 percent of the vote. Wike predicted a significant turnaround in 2027.

“Are you not aware he didn’t get up to 10 percent here in the FCT? But he will win here [in 2027],” Wike asserted. “Stop asking questions you already know the answers to. Of course you know. Is that hidden?”
