The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has directed the Katsina State Police Command to enhance security around schools across the state to ensure the safety of students, teachers and educational facilities.

The directive was delivered by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, Sulaiman Abdul, during a two-day operational visit to Katsina State.

According to the police, the command has been instructed to intensify surveillance, increase patrols around schools, strengthen intelligence gathering and maintain a visible security presence at educational institutions throughout the state.

Abdul said the initiative is designed to prevent criminal activities, improve emergency response capabilities and create a secure learning environment for students and staff.

As part of his visit, the deputy inspector-general inspected security arrangements at the Police Children School and the Government Girls Technical and Commercial College in Charanchi Local Government Area.

During the inspections, he assessed critical security infrastructure, including perimeter fences, access points, security posts and the deployment of personnel assigned to protect the schools.

The DIG also held separate meetings with school administrators and management teams to discuss security concerns and challenges facing the institutions.

The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between educational authorities and security agencies, improving safety measures within schools and enhancing preparedness against potential security threats.

Abdul urged school authorities to enforce stricter access-control measures, remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities in and around school premises to security agencies.

Reaffirming the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to protecting educational institutions, the DIG said the force remains dedicated to ensuring that students and teachers can carry out their academic activities without fear.
