During a visit to the palace of the Emir of Bauchi, Dr. Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu, to commission an Alternative High School and ICT center on Tuesday, March 12, First Lady Remi Tinubu emphasized that, at over 60 years old, she no longer fears death.

She recounted an incident where an Islamic cleric, Sunusi Abubakar, had issued a death threat against her. Tinubu expressed gratitude to the Governor of Bauchi for assuring her safety but reiterated her stance on fearlessness in the face of mortality.

Tinubu stated, “I want to thank His Excellency for assuring me that I am safe, but what I said is that I am too old to be afraid. If God has granted me 60 years, I think I shouldn’t be afraid of death, but I thank God I had the courage to come.”

She emphasized the need for unity in Nigeria, emphasizing that the country belongs to everyone and that it is imperative to unite, especially in challenging times. Tinubu expressed her appreciation for the warm reception received and the honor of paying her respects to the Emir of Bauchi.

Governor Bala Mohammed, in response, apologized to the First Lady on behalf of the people of Bauchi over the threat she faced. He commended Tinubu’s courage in visiting Bauchi despite the threat and assured her safety. Mohammed emphasized that Tinubu’s visit exemplified the unity of Nigeria and expressed remorse for the incident, pledging that such occurrences would not repeat.
