The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSI Mukhtar Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement issued in Minna, the state capital, on Monday, October 12, 2026.
According to Abubakar, Assistant Superintendent of Immigration I (ASI I), Ibrahim Babagiwa, and an inspector were attacked on October 6 while conducting a surveillance operation along the Tungan Waya-Woko axis, specifically in Woko village.
He said Babagiwa died in the attack, while the inspector sustained machete injuries but managed to escape.
The spokesperson added that the injured inspector was in stable condition and responding to treatment.
Abubakar further disclosed that Babagiwa’s remains were found burnt two days after the incident. The deceased officer has since been buried in accordance with Islamic rites.
Despite the security challenges in the area, the NIS Niger State Command reaffirmed its commitment to combating irregular migration and tackling other security threats along Nigeria’s international border.
The Command also reiterated its determination to continue discharging its statutory responsibilities despite the prevailing security situation.
