Ivory Coast, the host nation, has eliminated defending champions Senegal, securing a spot in the quarterfinals of the African Cup of Nations. Despite the round of 16 tie ending in a 1-1 draw on Monday, January 30, Ivory Coast emerged victorious in the penalty shootout.

Having advanced to the round of 16 as one of the best third-placed teams in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Ivory Coast is set to face Cape Verde in the quarterfinals.
