Manchester City winger Jack Grealish has joined Everton on loan for the 2025–26 season, in a move aimed at revitalizing his career following a difficult spell under Pep Guardiola.

The 29-year-old, who made just seven Premier League starts last season, was left out of City’s squad for the Club World Cup in the United States, highlighting his diminished role at the Etihad. Everton sealed the loan deal just days before their Premier League opener against Leeds on August 18, reportedly agreeing to cover part of Grealish’s £300,000-per-week wages.

“I’m over the moon to have signed for Everton – it’s massive for me, honestly. This is a great club, with great fans,” Grealish said. He will wear the number 18 shirt as a tribute to two of his footballing idols, Wayne Rooney and Paul Gascoigne. “My two favourite English players ever are Wayne Rooney and Paul Gascoigne, and I know they both wore number 18 here. I spoke to Wayne before I came, and I mentioned it – so I hope he’s happy as well.”

Grealish arrived at Manchester City from Aston Villa in 2021 for a then-British record £100 million fee. He went on to win three Premier League titles, the Champions League, and the FA Cup. However, after City’s historic treble in the 2022–23 season, his form declined. He was ultimately left out of England’s Euro 2024 squad—a decision he admitted left him “heartbroken.”

Off the pitch, questions around his lifestyle have added to speculation about his long-term future at the highest level. Grealish, however, sees Everton as the ideal place for a fresh start.

“As soon as I spoke to the manager, I knew there was only one place I wanted to go,” he said. “The support I’ve already had from Everton fans on social media has been overwhelming. That’s another big reason I chose this club. I want to say thank you for all the love and support – and I hope to repay it on the pitch.”

Everton, now playing at their new Hill Dickinson Stadium after leaving Goodison Park, view Grealish as their marquee signing following a quiet transfer window. Manager David Moyes expressed his excitement at bringing the former England international to Merseyside.

“We welcome Jack to Everton and we’re very pleased to have him on board,” Moyes said. “I think we’re getting him at a good time. He’s experienced, knows the league, and we’re all aware of the quality he brings. Jack wants to get back into the England squad, and we’ll do everything we can to help him achieve that.”
