On Friday, July 11, Jannik Sinner delivered a commanding performance to defeat Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon semi-finals, setting up a highly anticipated final against defending champion Carlos Alcaraz on Sunday.

The 23-year-old world number one secured a straight-sets victory of 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 over Djokovic, marking his first Wimbledon final appearance and his fourth consecutive Grand Slam final.

Sinner is eager to avenge his heartbreaking loss to world number two Alcaraz in last month’s French Open final, where he squandered three championship points in a dramatic Roland Garros showdown. Together, Sinner and Alcaraz have dominated men’s tennis recently, capturing the last six major titles between them.

“It’s a tournament I always watched as a kid on television, and I never imagined I could play here in the finals, so it’s amazing,” Sinner said after his victory. “I served very well, felt great on court, and moved really well today. We saw in the third set that he [Djokovic] was a bit injured. He’s been in a very difficult situation, but I tried to stay calm and play the best tennis I can.”

Djokovic, a seven-time Wimbledon champion, appeared hampered by injury and fitness concerns. This defeat ends his streak of reaching every Wimbledon final since 2017 and postpones his pursuit of a record 25th Grand Slam title and an eighth Wimbledon crown, which would tie Roger Federer’s men’s record.
