
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service successfully rescued a 56-year-old man trapped in a deep well in the Ikotun-Igando area.
Senior Public Affairs Officer Maria Fadairo disclosed in a statement on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, that the incident may have been caused by negligence. The Ejigbo Station of the Fire Service received a distress call over the weekend reporting a person trapped inside a well.
The rescue team promptly mobilized and arrived at House 12, Aiyeola Street, off Governor Road, Molad Bus Stop, Ikotun, within the Ikotun-Igando LCDA.
Upon arrival, they found a man, about 56 years old, trapped while working inside a well estimated to be 80 feet deep. The well was located at the back of a bungalow with eight rooms on a property covering roughly 648 square meters.
Thanks to the coordinated efforts of the firefighters, the man was rescued alive.
Preliminary investigations indicate that negligence may have contributed to the accident.
The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, emphasized the importance of informing the agency before carrying out hazardous tasks. This allows for the implementation of proper safety measures, including standby support, to prevent life-threatening incidents.
