The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has sealed 12 establishments, including a church, hotels, lounges and other businesses, over alleged persistent violations of environmental regulations.
LASEPA disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, saying the establishments were sealed on Tuesday, September 22, during an enforcement operation across several parts of Lagos State.
The operation covered areas including Ogba, Idimu-Ikota, Ejigbo, LASU-Iba Road, Igando and Agodo-Egbe.
According to the agency, the affected establishments had continued to violate environmental regulations despite receiving repeated warnings, abatement notices and opportunities to comply with its directives.
LASEPA said the enforcement exercise was carried out as part of the Lagos State Government’s efforts to ensure compliance with environmental laws, protect public health and promote a cleaner and safer environment.
Among the establishments sealed was Thrillz Lounge on Odusanmi Street, Ogba, over alleged noise pollution and non-compliance with the agency’s directives. Feixiang Plastic, located along LASU-Ojo Road at Oko Filling Bus Stop, was also sealed for alleged non-compliance.
Marvel Hotel & Suites at Chrisbee Crescent, BRT Bus Stop, Igando, was shut over alleged noise pollution and non-compliance, while Keviz Hotel & Suites on Councilor Ajayi Street, Obadore Bus Stop, LASU-Iba Road, was sealed for alleged obstruction of duty and failure to comply with LASEPA’s directives.
Other establishments affected included DSN Hotel & Suites on Benson Onyeacholen Street, LASU-Igando Road, and Rudaj Vegetable Oil on Tanimowo Street, Igando Road, which were both sealed for alleged non-compliance.
The Celestial Church of Christ, Aduragbemi Parish, on Adetola Buhari Street, Okerube Bus Stop, Ikotun, was also sealed over alleged noise pollution and non-compliance with environmental directives.
LASEPA further sealed Lima on Aro-Oloye Street, off Abaranje Road, Abaranje, Ikotun, and Nico Hotel & Suites at Ayawo Close, NEPA Bus Stop, Egbe-Isolo Road, Ejigbo, for alleged non-compliance.
Kobo Night Club on Abanishe Street, off Hostel Road, Agodo-Egbe, was shut over alleged noise pollution and non-compliance. Master Furniture on Coleman Street, Pao Bus Stop, Idimu-Ikota Road, and Nikky’s Executive Bar & Lounge on Governor’s Road, Ikotun, were also sealed for alleged failure to comply with the agency’s directives.
Speaking on the enforcement exercise, LASEPA General Manager, Dr Babatunde Ajayi, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to protecting public health and preserving the environment.
He urged business owners, facility operators, religious institutions, scrap dealers and residents across the state to adopt environmentally responsible practices and obtain all necessary permits and approvals.
Ajayi also called on operators to comply with applicable environmental regulations and cooperate with the agency’s efforts to promote a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable Lagos.
LASEPA said it would continue to enforce environmental regulations across the state.
