A 31-year-old mother and her 2-year-old twin daughter have died after being struck by lightning in Margate, Florida.

According to the Margate Police Department, Kenya Glasgow and her daughter, Kennedi, were struck by lightning at around 2:30 p.m. on Sunday while they were outside, in an incident witnessed by Kenya’s husband, Kam Glasgow.

Kam said he saw the lightning strike and was also affected by the electrical discharge from the ground. When he looked toward his wife and daughter, he found them lying on the sidewalk.

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, administered treatment and performed CPR before rushing the victims to separate hospitals. However, both Kenya and Kennedi were later pronounced dead.

Kam described Kenya as the love of his life, saying they had been together since they were teenagers and married for four years. He said her death had left him devastated, describing her as his best friend and an exceptionally caring person who always put others before herself.

The couple’s surviving daughter, Kensli, was Kennedi’s twin sister. Kam said he and Kensli would now have to cope with the loss together while relying on the support of their extended family and friends.

In an emotional tribute, Kam thanked Kenya and Kennedi for choosing him as their husband and father, adding that he would keep their memories alive and tell their story.

He also said he believed his late wife and daughter would continue to watch over him and Kensli.

The Margate Police Department said the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident remain under investigation
