A businessman, Abibu Yakubu, has dragged his former wife, Shuwadatu Mohammed, before Upper Area Court 1 in Karu over her alleged refusal to vacate his residence years after their divorce.

Yakubu is also asking the court to grant him custody of their four children.

The petition, filed on October 13, 2025, stated that both parties currently reside at Orange Market in Mararaba, within Karu Local Government Area.

According to the claimant, his ex-wife frequently disrespects and insults him as well as his parents. He told the court that their marriage produced four children aged 22, 19, and six-year-old twins.

Yakubu alleged that although he divorced Mohammed about five years ago, she has refused to move out of his house. He further claimed that she threatened to kill him and said she would not leave the property.

The petitioner told the court that the alleged threats have left him living in fear, claiming he no longer sleeps peacefully with both eyes closed.

He urged the court to hold the respondent responsible should anything happen to him.

In addition to seeking custody of the children, Yakubu also requested a formal reaffirmation of the dissolution of the marriage.

After listening to the matter, the presiding judge, Mohammed Yakubu, adjourned the case until June 3 for further hearing.
