Manchester United have reached an agreement to sign Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp for an initial €21 million (£18.1 million), with additional add-ons.

This transfer marks the end of United’s pursuit of Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez as they look to strengthen their goalkeeping options.

The 23-year-old Lammens is set to travel to Manchester to finalize a five-year contract with the Premier League club.

Manchester United have faced goalkeeping challenges this season, with Altay Bayindir making costly errors in league matches and last season’s first-choice, Andre Onana, underperforming—most notably during their EFL Cup exit to League Two side Grimsby Town.

Club insiders describe Lammens as a promising young talent with considerable long-term potential.

Lammens moved to Antwerp from Club Brugge in 2023, making 64 appearances and helping the team secure the Belgian Super Cup. Although he has yet to feature for Belgium’s senior national team, he earned his first call-up in March 2025 and is seen as a potential successor to Thibaut Courtois.

Last season, he kept seven clean sheets in 30 Belgian Pro League matches and was recently omitted from Antwerp’s squad amid transfer negotiations.

Lammens’ signing comes amid a busy deadline day for Manchester United. Antony is set to join Real Betis, Jadon Sancho is expected to move on loan to Aston Villa, and Rasmus Hojlund is close to completing a transfer to Napoli.

Meanwhile, midfielder Kobbie Mainoo, who had requested a loan move due to limited playing time, is now expected to remain with the club.
