A Nigerian woman has criticised the growing emphasis on wealth in Nigeria, arguing that many wealthy men are not necessarily attractive or interesting because they have little to offer beyond their financial success.

According to her, society’s obsession with money and social status has become so intense that people often use wealth as a yardstick to measure themselves and others.

She noted that even during ordinary banter online, disagreements can quickly turn personal, with people resorting to insults about another person’s financial status or background.

The woman stressed that having money does not automatically make a person interesting, well-mannered or pleasant to be around.

“Money is not a mark; instead, money is a revealer. After you get money, work on your person. Personality still matters a lot,” she said.

She further argued that while some people believe wealth can mask bad character, money cannot permanently compensate for poor behaviour, as people eventually have to interact with the person behind the wealth.
