Mother accused of killing, burying daughter before reporting her missing

A woman in the United States has been accused of killing her daughter after initially reporting her missing.

Authorities in West Virginia said 50-year-old Staci Wind of Richwood has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of her 26-year-old daughter, Ayla Wind.

According to officials, Ayla Wind was reported missing on May 18. However, investigators later discovered a shallow grave containing human remains on Friday near Summit Lake in Greenbrier County, leading to Staci Wind’s arrest on Saturday, May 23, 2026.

The case was detailed in a news release cited by WCHS. Authorities have not yet disclosed further information regarding Ayla Wind’s death or the evidence that led to her mother’s arrest.

Staci Wind is currently being held without bond at Central Regional Jail.
