The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has sealed off an illegal chemical and water packaging facility operating in the Damangaza district of Apo Waru, Federal Capital Territory.

According to Mr. Embugushiki Godiya, Head of NAFDAC’s Investigation and Enforcement Unit in Abuja, the operation followed intelligence reports on illicit manufacturing activities in the area. The agency discovered that the water factory was producing and packaging water overnight to evade regulatory detection. Officials found 88 bags of water with fake NAFDAC registration numbers and evidence of unauthorized production.

“This factory is not certified by NAFDAC. The registration number on their product is fake. We are conducting further investigations and will apply the necessary sanctions,” Godiya stated.

In the same area, NAFDAC also uncovered an illegal chemical laboratory operated by one Ikechukwu Elijah. The facility was allegedly used to manufacture unapproved products, including disinfectants, air fresheners, and even banned substances. Despite initially denying involvement, Elijah was linked to the operation through evidence found in his home, including his identification documents.

During the raid, the agency seized sealing machines, gas cylinders, large containers of mixed chemicals, and finished products ready for distribution. Elijah and one of his workers were arrested, and the facility was sealed.

Godiya emphasized that investigations would extend to identifying Elijah’s suppliers and distribution network. “Our priority is to remove these illegal products from circulation and bring everyone involved to justice,” he said.

He also warned landlords against renting properties for unlicensed production. “Landlords who allow such activities on their premises are aiding and abetting criminal acts, and they will face legal consequences,” Godiya warned.
