The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) announced on Wednesday, May 28, that it has launched an investigation into singer Speed Darlington following his controversial claim of engaging in a sexual encounter with a 15-year-old girl.
The singer’s statement, made during a live session on Instagram, drew widespread condemnation. The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) initially addressed the issue but noted its jurisdictional limits, as the specific location of the alleged incident could not be determined. The agency has since referred the case to NAPTIP for further investigation.
In a post shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, NAPTIP confirmed that its Cybercrime Response Team is now reviewing the viral video and other related content involving Speed Darlington.
“The NAPTIP Cybercrime Response Team has commenced investigations into the disturbing Instagram live video and other videos made by the same individual. We at NAPTIP are committed to a world where children are safe and free from all forms of violence,” the agency stated.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to verify the details and determine any possible violations of child protection and trafficking laws.
