The civic group Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged the National Assembly to swiftly reject President Bola Tinubu’s new request for a \$24 billion loan.

In a statement shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday, SERAP stated:

“The National Assembly must immediately refuse to approve the Tinubu administration’s request to borrow \$24 billion, which would raise Nigeria’s total debt to ₦183 trillion. The escalating national debt is clearly unsustainable and not in the public interest.”
