The National Football League (NFL) and the NFL Players Association have launched a joint review of the medical care provided to Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts following a reported blood clot diagnosis that has ruled him out for the remainder of the season.

According to TMZ, the review will examine how the Eagles handled Hurts’ diagnosis and treatment.

In a joint statement on Sunday, October 25, the organisations confirmed the development, saying, “The NFL and NFL Players Association are working together to review the matter.”

The announcement followed a call by the players’ union for a full investigation before any conclusions were drawn about the medical care Hurts received.

The union stressed that establishing the facts was essential to ensuring players receive appropriate medical treatment and protection.

TMZ reported that Hurts was initially diagnosed with a superficial blood clot in his leg, but subsequent examinations reportedly identified multiple clots in his lungs. He has since been ruled out for the rest of the season, according to the report.

Speaking to TMZ’s In The Know, Dr David Abbasi suggested that Hurts could require three to six months away from play because of bleeding risks associated with blood-thinning medication.

However, Abbasi’s comments were an independent medical assessment and not an official recovery timeline provided by Hurts’ treating doctors.

The joint review has yet to announce any findings regarding the Eagles’ handling of the quarterback’s medical condition.
