A nurse identified as Taiwo Godwin Ayodeji has reportedly died following an asthma attack at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, with a colleague alleging that oxygen was not administered despite his worsening condition.

An eyewitness who spoke to SaharaReporters said Ayodeji, who was reportedly a known asthma patient, was taken to the hospital after experiencing breathing difficulties while playing football.

According to the report, a friend who accompanied him said Ayodeji was still able to walk into the hospital’s emergency unit upon arrival.

However, the eyewitness alleged that although Ayodeji was placed on oxygen equipment, the oxygen supply was not switched on.

“I noticed he was on oxygen, but the oxygen was not put on,” the source reportedly told SaharaReporters.

The source further alleged that Ayodeji’s condition had deteriorated by the time medical personnel attended to him, claiming that he had developed a weak pulse and dilated pupils.

The eyewitness also claimed that a doctor struggled to gain intravenous access and that attempts to secure Ayodeji’s airway were unsuccessful before he was eventually pronounced dead.

The source alleged that Ayodeji’s death was the second involving a nurse from the same school at the facility this year, raising concerns over the circumstances surrounding the reported incidents.

The eyewitness called for a thorough investigation into the matter and demanded justice for the deceased.

As of the time of reporting, the school authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the incident. The allegations surrounding Ayodeji’s death have not been independently verified.
