The Federal Government has urged Nigerians to remain calm following the confirmation of an Ebola virus case involving a woman who travelled to Nigeria from Uganda and tested positive in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
In a statement, the Federal Ministry of Health said it was working with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) and other relevant health authorities to take necessary measures to protect public health and strengthen disease surveillance.
“There is no need for panic. What matters is staying informed, practising good hand hygiene, knowing the symptoms and seeking guidance from public health authorities if you suspect exposure,” the ministry stated.
The ministry reminded Nigerians that Ebola spreads through direct contact with the blood or other body fluids of an infected person who is sick or has died, as well as contaminated materials.
It also noted that the virus does not spread before symptoms begin.
For reliable information or to report a suspected case, Nigerians were advised to contact the NCDC toll-free line on 6232, which operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
