Not Even Jonathan Can Defeat Tinubu — Daniel Bwala

Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser on Policy Communication to President Bola Tinubu, has dismissed the possibility of any political figure, including former President Goodluck Jonathan, unseating Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking during an appearance on Politics Today on Channels Television, Wednesday, August 13, Bwala rejected growing calls for Jonathan to return to the political arena, labeling them a strategy to tarnish the former president’s reputation.

“I see that some unscrupulous elements are trying to hoodwink former President Goodluck Jonathan into returning to politics so they can destroy the global reputation he’s built since leaving office,” Bwala said.

He argued that the political landscape in southern Nigeria — Jonathan’s home region — now heavily favors Tinubu, citing the backing of several governors. He also cast doubt on the sincerity of northern politicians urging Jonathan to contest, many of whom, he claimed, had previously worked to remove him from office.

“The people urging him to run — weren’t they the same ones who chased him out? What makes anyone think they mean well for him now?” Bwala questioned. “I believe President Jonathan is too smart to fall for that.”

Confident in Tinubu’s political standing, Bwala stated unequivocally that no contender — including Jonathan — poses a real threat.

“If President Jonathan decides to run, I’ll tell you this: based on facts and the current political climate, there’s no politician in Nigeria today with the capacity to defeat President Bola Tinubu,” he declared.

As of now, Jonathan has not publicly indicated any intention to run in 2027.
