A personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), identified as Blessing Akpan, was tragically stabbed to death by unidentified assailants in Abuja.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday last week, right in front of her residence in Piawe, Bwari Area Council. She was rushed to multiple hospitals but was reportedly denied urgent medical attention due to the absence of a police report.

Medical personnel at Bwari General Hospital later confirmed her death.

Friends of the late officer, speaking to Daily Trust on Monday, July 28, expressed deep frustration over the circumstances surrounding her death. One friend, who chose to remain anonymous, said Blessing could have survived if she had received timely medical care.

“She bled too much while we were being turned away from one hospital to another,” the friend said. “It’s heartbreaking that someone was dying and still wasn’t attended to because of a missing police report. Even after showing them her NSCDC ID card, they still refused. We kept moving her around until she passed.”

Another friend explained that Blessing was likely attacked during an attempted robbery.

“She was heading out when some people tried to rob her. From what we gathered, they stabbed her while trying to take her belongings.”

The tragic incident has sparked outrage and renewed calls for reforms in emergency medical protocols, especially regarding the treatment of victims in life-threatening situations. As of now, no arrests have been made, and an investigation is ongoing.
