Nurses Suspend Warning Strike

The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has suspended its nationwide warning strike.

NANNM’s Assistant Secretary-General, Chidi Aligwe, confirmed on Saturday that the one-week strike, originally scheduled to end next Tuesday, has been called off.

He explained that the decision was reached during a virtual meeting of NANNM’s National Executive Council.

“The strike has been suspended. Nurses and midwives are to resume duty immediately,” Aligwe stated.

This announcement comes a day after the union denied an earlier claim by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Mohammad Pate, that they had called off the strike.

The industrial action, which began on July 30, was launched in protest against poor remuneration, staff shortages, unpaid allowances, and unsafe working conditions.
