The Ogun State office of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has launched an operation targeting fuel stations engaged in under-dispensing fuel to customers.
Several stations in the Sagamu area were sealed as part of the effort to combat fraudulent practices within the state.
Akinyemi Atilola, the state coordinator of NMDPRA, led the enforcement team during surveillance operations in both Abeokuta and Sagamu. He stressed that the initiative was crucial to protecting consumers and ensuring they receive full value for their money. He issued a stern warning to fuel station owners, stating that those caught engaging in unlawful activities would face severe penalties.
Atilola assured the public that the regulatory authority is dedicated to upholding consumer rights and enforcing best practices. “It’s essential that customers get the full amount of fuel they pay for,” he said. “We will continue to monitor fuel stations and take action against those compromising both quality and quantity.”
He emphasized that stations found guilty of under-dispensing fuel would face strict sanctions, asserting that consumers should not have to pay as much as N980 per litre only to receive less than what they’ve paid for.
