A tragic fire outbreak occurred at the female hostel of the Federal University, Gashua, situated in Bade Local Government Area of Yobe State, resulting in the loss of life of a third-year student from the Department of Geography.
Mohammed Goje, the Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency, confirmed the incident. According to a student from the institution who spoke with Channels Television, the blaze erupted around 1 pm on Saturday, March 22, prompting students to flee for their safety. Some individuals were evacuated to the specialist hospital in Gashua for urgent medical attention.
The cause of the fire is still unclear, although some students suspect that it may have been ignited by a cooking gas leak.
This heartbreaking incident occurred precisely one month after a similar fire engulfed a female hostel at Yobe State University in Damaturu, the state capital.
