The Kano State Hisbah Board reported arresting over 600 people during the recent Sallah celebrations across the state for various offences, while also reuniting dozens of missing children with their families.
Deputy Commander General of the board, Dr. Mujahiddin Aminuddin, said the actions were part of efforts to uphold morality and cultural values during the festivities. He noted that more than 9,500 operatives were deployed statewide to monitor activities.
Those arrested included 275 youths for “indecent barbing,” 85 tricycle drivers for carrying female passengers beside them, 21 individuals for wearing short knickers, and 286 women for indecent dressing.
He added, “A local government chairman was also found in a hotel with children without parental consent. We later contacted the parents, reunited the children, and released them.”
Other cases involved a husband and wife accused of violent thuggery, a youth allegedly providing lodges for adultery and sodomy, a trader reportedly keeping weapons for thugs, and a sorcerer accused of marrying off a woman without her family’s approval.
Dr. Aminuddin also confirmed that the board reunited 66 missing children with their parents and dispersed youths attempting to organise a party in Sabon Gari.
He stressed that festive celebrations should reflect religious values, warning event centre owners against hosting activities that contravene local culture and tradition. “Hisbah will not allow such activities. People should assist by reporting wrongdoing so we can maintain order in Kano,” he said.
