The Oyo State Government has approved ₦4.5 billion in financial support for victims and survivors of the January 16 Bodija explosion.
The approval was granted during the State Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday, May 14, at the Executive Chambers of the Governor’s Office.
Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, said the newly approved funds come in addition to over ₦200 million already spent by the state on emergency relief efforts, including accommodation, medical care, feeding, and security.
Oyelade also revealed that the council ratified a 10-member committee’s recommendation to revoke the titles of two properties located off Adeyi Avenue, the site of the explosion. A memorial will be constructed on the revoked land in honor of the victims.
He added that the decisions were made in the public interest and aimed at bringing closure to the affected communities.
