
The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 60-year-old man over the alleged defilement of a 9-year-old girl in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, the incident was reported by the victim’s father, who alleged that his daughter was lured to a hideout and sexually assaulted on May 7, 2026.
Following the complaint, detectives from the division promptly apprehended the suspect. During interrogation, he reportedly confessed to the offence and also admitted to having committed similar acts against the child on multiple occasions in different locations.
The police further disclosed that the victim later mentioned another suspect, identified only as Nafi’u, who is allegedly connected to a separate incident involving her and is currently at large.
Habib explained that both the victim and the suspect were taken to the General Hospital in Toro for medical examination and care. He added that the suspect has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Bauchi for further discreet investigation and prosecution, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the incident in strong terms and reaffirmed the Command’s zero-tolerance policy toward child abuse and sexual and gender-based violence. He also urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly to security agencies.
The Command assured the public that justice would be pursued thoroughly and in accordance with due process.
