The Abia State Police Command has arrested a man and three others over an alleged attempt to sell and traffic his 16-month-old biological daughter.
The suspects were arrested on September 7, 2026, by operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Gender Unit, at a hotel in Obi, Obingwa Local Government Area of the state.
The state Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi, disclosed the development while briefing journalists, saying the suspects were being investigated for alleged conspiracy and child trafficking.
According to Afolabi, preliminary investigations established that the child was the biological daughter of one of the suspects.
He said further investigation indicated that the alleged attempt to traffic the child was motivated by the desire to make money.
The police rescued the child and handed her over to the Ministry of Women Affairs for protection.
Meanwhile, the four suspects remained in police custody as investigations continued.
