The command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
According to Habib, the incident occurred at about 11:30 a.m. when a political dispute broke out between two men identified as Lawi and Usman Idris, both residents of the area behind Isiyaka Jibrin Quarters, Bakin Kura, Bauchi.
During the altercation, a man identified as Mamman Gore, an associate of Lawi and a resident of the same area, allegedly appeared with a sharp machete and attacked Usman, severing his wrist and causing him to collapse and lose consciousness.
The victim was immediately evacuated to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, where he received emergency medical attention. He is currently receiving treatment and responding to medical care, the police said.
Following the incident, operatives of the ‘A’ Division Township arrested Lawi, who is currently in custody assisting with the investigation.
However, Mamman Gore, the principal suspect accused of carrying out the attack, reportedly fled to an unknown destination.
The police said efforts had been intensified to track down and arrest the fleeing suspect to ensure he is brought to justice.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned political violence and thuggery, warning that the command would not tolerate any act capable of threatening public peace and safety.
