The Ghana Police Service has arrested two key suspects in connection with the alleged kidnapping and murder of 18-year-old Senegalese goalkeeper, Cheikh Toure, in Kumasi in October 2025. The arrests followed a sustained intelligence-led operation, the Police said in a statement issued on Thursday, September 24, 2026. According to the statement, on October 16, 2025, some individuals who claimed to be brothers of the deceased took Toure to the Manhyia Hospital with multiple abdominal injuries, alleging that he had been involved in an accident. However, the goalkeeper was pronounced dead on arrival. The suspects subsequently deposited his body at the Ebenezer Mortuary in Tafo, Kumasi, before fleeing the area. The Police said Salifu Walid, a 32-year-old Nigerien, and Aziz Wadrago Mane, a 24-year-old Burkinabe, were arrested on September 20, 2026, at their hideout in Banpanase, near Mamponteng, in the Ashanti Region. Preliminary investigations indicate that the two suspects are members of a four-man group allegedly responsible for masterminding Toure’s kidnapping and murder. According to investigators, the group allegedly posed as football scouting agents and used online networks to lure unsuspecting victims into Ghana. During interrogation, the two suspects reportedly admitted their involvement and provided information about their respective roles in luring Toure into the country as part of an alleged scheme to defraud him. The Police said efforts have been intensified to arrest two other suspects, Noukoubri Arzouma Sylviain, also known as Prince Pierre, and Barry, who remain at large and are believed to have played central roles in the group’s activities. The two arrested suspects are currently in Police custody and will be processed for court, the statement added.
