Five people have been killed and three others injured in a suspected bandit attack on communities in Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The attack occurred on Thursday evening, September 3, in Girkau community and other settlements within Girkau Ward. Residents also reported that several people were abducted and cattle were rustled during the incident.
Confirming the attack on Friday, the spokesperson for the Sokoto State Police Command, DSP Ahmed Rufai, said five people were killed, while three others sustained injuries.
“Five persons were killed, three others were injured, while unspecified animals were rustled in the attack,” Rufai said.
He added that the command was still gathering information on the incident, including the number of residents who may have been abducted, and promised that further details would be released as they emerge.
The attack comes amid growing security concerns in Kebbe LGA, where residents have reportedly faced repeated attacks, abductions and cattle rustling.
It also occurred days after Kebbe town was reportedly subjected to a ₦40 million levy allegedly imposed by bandits on Tuesday afternoon. However, the police did not confirm the alleged levy in their latest statement.
Rufai assured residents that the police and other security agencies remained committed to protecting lives and property in the area.
He said security agencies would continue to respond to threats and work closely with local communities to improve their safety.
