The Kano State Police Command has dismantled a notorious syndicate involved in the theft of tricycles across the state, arresting four suspects—including a female member—and recovering six stolen tricycles.

In a statement released on Thursday, June 25, 2025, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Hussaini Abdullahi, revealed that the suspects were apprehended following a coordinated operation based on credible intelligence.

“On June 17, 2025, police operatives acting on a tip-off arrested two key suspects—30-year-old Auwal Mohammed of Hotoro Quarters, Kano, and 25-year-old Maryam Ibrahim of Bauchi State—at Kura Local Government Area,” the statement read.

The suspects allegedly drugged a tricycle operator, Shu’aibu Aliyu, in an attempt to steal his vehicle. However, a swift response from law enforcement officers led to the recovery of the tricycle and the arrest of the suspects.

Further investigations uncovered the involvement of two more individuals identified as receivers: 25-year-old Suleiman Lawal, a.k.a. Aljan, of Sheka Quarters, and 32-year-old Muhammad Tajuddeen of Kundila Quarters, Kano. Both were subsequently arrested.

A total of six stolen tricycles were recovered during the operation.

“The Command remains committed to ensuring that all suspects face the full weight of the law,” DSP Abdullahi stated. He also urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities linked to such criminal networks.

The police have called on individuals whose tricycles may have been stolen to visit the Bompai Police Headquarters—Office of the Police Public Relations Officer—or contact 07014601313 for possible identification and collection of their recovered vehicles.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to fighting crime and ensuring the safety and security of residents throughout Kano State.
