The Anambra State Police Command has commended the bravery of an Awka resident who courageously recorded a video of an ongoing kidnapping, aiding the police in their investigation.
The video, which has gone viral, shows three armed men in a stainless-colored Toyota Highlander SUV without a number plate. The footage captures the suspects firing shots indiscriminately before abducting an unidentified victim during the early hours of Friday, June 27.
In a statement released on Saturday, June 28, Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed that the command is using the video to advance their investigation. He shared that the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, praised the individual’s bravery, noting that the footage is playing a crucial role in ongoing rescue efforts.
“This video is aiding the rescue operations and may help save the kidnapped victim,” Orutugu said, describing the act as a powerful example of community involvement in fighting crime.
Authorities believe the video will assist in identifying the suspects, gathering evidence, and ensuring those responsible face justice.
Meanwhile, the police also announced the recovery of the body of Mr. Chido Ozor, a kidnapping victim who was abducted on June 19 from his piggery farm in Nimo, Njikoka Local Government Area. Ikenga stated that while tracking the suspects, officers found Ozor’s body near his farm on June 23.
Investigations continue, and the police urge the public to support security efforts by providing credible information that could lead to arrests and prevent further crimes.
