The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, has announced that President Bola Tinubu has approved the conversion of Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) into a university.

Alausa made this revelation during a working visit to the college on February 14.

He stated that YABATECH is fully prepared to become a university, describing the institution as a significant legacy.

“The Rector mentioned earlier that the staff, students, and management have been praying and fasting for the school’s conversion to a university. You’ve caught me off guard, but I must tell you that when I discussed the matter with President Bola Tinubu, he quickly gave his approval. I’m now waiting for the memo and other necessary protocols to follow,” he said.

“This institution is a legacy, and with over 200 staff members holding doctorate degrees in various fields, it is more than capable of becoming a university. All credit goes to the President, who has a deep passion for education and is committed to offering the best opportunities to our youth, who are our future leaders,” he added.
