PSG beat Chelsea 8-2 (Agg) in tactical masterclass to reach Champions League quarter-finals

Paris Saint-Germain produced a ruthless display to sweep aside Chelsea and secure a place in the Champions League quarter-finals, cruising to a 3-0 win at Stamford Bridge and an emphatic 8-2 aggregate triumph.

The French side took control from the outset, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia striking early before Bradley Barcola added a superb second, effectively ending any hopes of a Chelsea comeback after their heavy first-leg deficit.

Substitute Senny Mayulu put the result beyond doubt in the second half, capping a clinical performance from Luis Enrique’s team as they advanced comfortably into the last eight. PSG will now face either Liverpool or Galatasaray in the next round, with the reigning champions showing strong form at a decisive stage of the competition. The victory also avenged their defeat to Chelsea in last year’s Club World Cup final.

It was another frustrating night for Chelsea, who never looked capable of overturning the deficit following their collapse in Paris, where they conceded three late goals. PSG opened the scoring just six minutes in after a defensive lapse allowed Kvaratskhelia to power home. Shortly after, a slick move involving Warren Zaire-Emery and Achraf Hakimi set up Barcola, who fired into the top corner.

Mayulu added the third shortly after the hour mark, finishing from close range following more impressive work by Kvaratskhelia.

Chelsea’s misery was compounded late on when Trevoh Chalobah was stretchered off, leaving the hosts to finish with 10 men after using all their substitutes.

The Blues will now shift focus to securing a return to Europe’s elite competition next season, while PSG continue their title defence with growing confidence.
