PSG Becomes First Football Club to Add Bitcoin to Treasury Reserves

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has made history by becoming the first professional football club to incorporate Bitcoin into its treasury reserve strategy—marking a bold step in the convergence of global sports and digital finance.

The announcement was made at the Bitcoin 2025 conference in Las Vegas by PSG Labs head Pär Helgosson, who revealed that the club had quietly begun accumulating Bitcoin last year and continues to hold it on its balance sheet. “We put Bitcoin in our books, and we still have it,” Helgosson told attendees.

This move aligns PSG with a growing number of major corporations—including MicroStrategy, GameStop, Trump Media, and Twenty-One Capital—that are adopting Bitcoin as a hedge against inflation and a long-term store of value.

While many sports teams explored digital assets during the crypto boom through fan tokens and NFTs—often as short-lived experiments—PSG’s strategy represents a more permanent and strategic shift. The club has formally integrated Bitcoin into its financial reserves, placing itself among forward-looking tech firms and financial institutions embracing decentralized finance.

PSG’s decision is rooted in future-focused planning and audience engagement. With a global fan base exceeding 550 million—80% of whom are under the age of 34—the club sees Bitcoin as a powerful tool to connect with a digitally native generation. This demographic, raised on smartphones, streaming, and fintech, increasingly associates Bitcoin with innovation and financial empowerment.

Beyond the pitch, PSG is evolving into a global lifestyle and tech-driven brand. PSG Labs, the club’s innovation hub launched in 2023, is leading the charge into emerging technologies including blockchain, VR, tokenized fan experiences, and digital assets.

As part of its broader commitment to Bitcoin, PSG also plans to invest in early-stage crypto startups and support Bitcoin-focused entrepreneurs. Helgosson emphasized the club’s intent to leverage its global reach, brand strength, and partnerships to help innovators launch products, secure funding, and gain exposure.

“We will launch with you, list with you, raise with you,” Helgosson said, signaling PSG’s ambitions to play an active role in the growing Bitcoin ecosystem.

This landmark move signals a new era in digital asset adoption—where legacy institutions, including sports giants like PSG, are stepping into the forefront of financial innovation.
