A 48-year-old woman in Michigan, Tash Beamon, has been arrested and charged after allegedly holding her sister-in-law captive in a basement for two years.
Beamon faces charges of unlawful imprisonment and abuse of a vulnerable adult. Authorities said she had been acting as a caregiver for the 58-year-old victim but instead kept her confined in the basement with very limited access to food, water, and basic facilities.
According to police, the victim managed to escape on March 15, 2026, and sought help at a nearby house, where she broke a window in an attempt to alert someone to call emergency services.
Responding officers said the woman reported being held against her will and was subsequently taken to a hospital for treatment.
Charges were formally approved on April 2, after which Beamon was arrested and detained at the Saginaw County Jail.
