
Nigeria’s Super Eagles will close out 2025 ranked 38th in the world, according to FIFA’s latest rankings released on Monday, December 22.
The team maintained the same position it held in the November 19 rankings, having climbed three places from 41st. Nigeria also retained its sixth place standing in Africa. Overall, the year delivered mixed results for the Super Eagles, but they ended it six places higher than their starting position of 44th.
Nigeria’s ranking journey in 2025 saw an early rise to 43rd in April, followed by a slide to 44th in July and 45th in September. A major turnaround came in October, when the Super Eagles surged to 41st their biggest leap since February 2024 boosted by their silver-medal finish at the Africa Cup of Nations. The November update moved them up three more spots to 38th, a position they carry into 2026.
In Africa, Morocco led the standings, sitting 11th globally, with Senegal close behind in 19th place. Algeria rose to 34th worldwide, while Egypt dropped to 35th, placing fifth on the continent.
On the global stage, Spain topped the rankings, followed by Argentina and France. England placed fourth, Brazil fifth, while Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and Croatia rounded out the top 10.
The next FIFA rankings are set to be released on January 19, 2026, one day after the AFCON final in Morocco.
